Is affiliate marketing past its prime? Is there still money to be made in this type of marketing online? Let’s take a look at these and other questions.

2012 is a Great Time to Be involved in Affiliate Marketing

Don’t buy into the line that there is no money left in this kind of marketing. The fact is, the web is solidifying like never before. It is now much larger and people are used to making purchases online, too. That is great for those of us in affiliate marketing because it means we do not have to push as hard to win over customers. All we have to do is know how to get our products in front of the right audience. You can raise yourself above the rest by seeking out education. Once you are well educated in how the best folks in affiliate marketing get their sales, you will see that the gates are wide open in 2012 and earning is a lot less limited than ever before. Let’s consider some top techniques for really bringing in customers and making sales.

Social Marketing is Where You Want to Focus for Fast and Powerful Results

It is no secret that social media is huge these days. Practically everyone has a Facebook page and there are plenty of people on sites like Twitter, Youtube and more, every single day. Simply engaging others and having real discussions with them about your niche is going to help you build trust. In affiliate marketing, trust is everything. Those who like you and trust you are going to end up taking your advice and buying when you suggest they do so. This is called relationship marketing and it can take your sales to the next level in a big way. So do not be afraid to get out there and be social, it will only help your niche and also make you a star in that niche. Social media is huge in 2012 and if you embrace this, you will see that it makes your marketing efforts a great deal easier.

List Building Remains a Truly Exceptional Way to Build Your Core Audience

Yes, email lists are still big business. The reason for this is that this allows you to connect directly with your customers. While social media is great for luring them in, lists are a way to go to them. When you do affiliate marketing, having the right list is like owning a gold mine. You can suggest all kinds of products and if you make your list valuable to your audience then they are actually going to look forward to receiving your emails. Those with a powerful list can also do a joint partnership with others who might be affiliate marketers in a related niche, swapping mentions in each other’s lists. This is a great way to expand your business by leveraging the reach of your partner’s list to help build your own. 2012 means we are seeing more people working together and really making their lists invaluable to their audiences in a big way. Don’t be shy about using your social media presence to encourage people to sign up for your list. A certain percentage will and these are likely to be customers that stay with you for a long time, making repeat purchases.

The Importance of Finding Solid Social Support in Affiliate Marketing

Have you thought about getting more involved with this kind of marketing? It is a good idea to associate with others who do the same type of business you do because this is an excellent way to keep yourself up to date on new opportunities and also to stay motivated. I still remember when I first began my online journey around 5 years ago, I had just set up my website and eagerly was awaiting sales to come flooding in!! :)

Nothing happened and as the learning curve goes...I was getting sorely disappointed at this stage which was when I received a very interesting and hopeful phone call. They introduced themselves...said I had a very interesting website and that they were interested in what I was advertising. He then asked me whether I wanted my webpage to be number 1 on Google to which any self respecting newbie to internet marketing would reply "YES". I was informed that If I parted with a measly 2000 USD, this SEO company would skyrocket my sales by getting my website ranked number one on the search engines within 2-3 months.

Well...I had my credit card out but believe me or not... divine intervention saved me from bankrupting myself even before I started. The CC did not go through and for the next few weeks this company tried everything in it's arsenal to get me to pay up, threatening legal action. I'm glad the money did not go through but it was an invaluable lesson anyhow.

So here's a short article on how you can recognise fraud and scams in the online world...

Every body has heard of duplicitous online schemes: fraudulent business deals that soak innocent folks for hundreds and even thousands of dollars. These bad deals are rampant on the internet, and virtually any search for work at home opportunities will turn up several scam programs. As aware as most people are that these bad deals exist, there are still three things that the perpetrators count on your not knowing.

1. The best bad deals are carefully disguised to look like good business models. In fact, there are many fraudulent schemes based on legitimate businesses! Taking a solid business and tweaking some of the components can produce a money-making fraud that most people will believe in. Frauds that look a lot like reputable programs can be virtually indistinguishable, opening even the most suspicious online business people up to harm.

2. The bad people behind frauds keep their hands as clean as possible by staying hands off. A fraud will quickly reveal itself when you can’t get an answer from anyone you try to contact with questions. Much like the little wizard behind the curtain in the magical world of Oz, these people sit safely behind computer screens and never respond to the calls of their victims. They count on eager customers who will not try to speak with them in advance to ensure that they do not have to start any communication that might hinder their fraud later.

3. People who live off of scams rely on shame to perpetuate their crime. They rely on the shame of their victims and the silence that shame inspires. Online scam artists trust that you will not tell anyone you fell for a scam. When you don’t tell, their secrets stay safe and other people might fall for the same scheme again. They rely on your embarrassment and silence to strike out at new victims.

These simple facts about scams help shed light on the way these awful businesses perpetuate frauds online. Keep these facts in mind as you work online, and you might find you avoid a few more fraudulent schemes this festive season....All the best.

You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this YouTube video

In this video, Joel answers a common question regarding affiliate marketing. If you are just beginning to consider joining the millions yes millions of people wanting a successful affiliate business, then this video might help you.

So what is affiliate marketing? Simply put according to Joel it is, S.O.P.S. Selling Other People’s Stuff.

On the one hand you have the merchant, or a producer of goods and services also known as a vendor, selling any type of product or service, such as digital goods, physical products, membership sites etc…

So, if you have a particular website or blog, let’s say on clothing citing Joel’s example, you could sign up for the GAP’s affiliate program put a link to a specific or related product on your site and when a customer clicks that link on your website which then directs them to the online store where that particular GAP product is being sold and buys that product, you as the affiliate of the GAP makes a commission, paid to you by the merchant.

The good thing about affiliate marketing is that you do not need your own product nor have to deal with customers directly. What you need to do is bring buyers to your affiliate offer. Sounds simple doesn’t it. But in today’s high competition marketplace on the internet getting customers to your affiliate offers is not easy.

Let me show you how for free. If you have been struggling with affiliate marketing or wish to get started and don’t know how …sign up to my affiliate marketing newsletter and learn the proper way to make money on the internet by selling other people’s stuff.

Are you reluctant to dive into the topic of domain name registration, don’t be, because it is an easy process that any person who knows how to use a computer is be able to do.

First of all, what is a domain name? A domain name is a unique spot on the internet that web browsers use to locate websites, consider it an address for your virtual real estate. In other words, without a domain name, you could not locate a website using such names as Google, Amazon or eBay. You would need to know the IP address of these websites, which is a bunch of numbers ( 162.195.21.1) most of which would not make any sense at all. Domain names are thus more descriptive and easier to recognize as opposed to a bunch of numbers with dots between them.

The process of domain name registration starts by locating a registrar. There are hundreds of accredited domain name registrars online and a list of them can be found on www.internic.com/regist.html. Once you locate a registrar, there will be a domain name search tool on their website that you can use to first search for the domain name that you want. The purpose of doing a search is to find out if the domain name is available and if you can purchase it. Assuming that all goes well and you do get the domain name that you want, there are 3 more steps before you can completely claim ownership of the site.

First is to decide the number of years you want the domain name registered for. Different registrars will have their own requirements. Generally a minimum of 1 or 2 years is required. Depending on the purpose of the website and lets assume for our purposes that it is for your affiliate business, use your discretion to determine how long you want to have the domain under your ownership. I recommend 1 year and if things don’t work out you can always not renew and save some money.

The second step is to choose whether you want the domain private or public. Public domain name registration is more convenient but less secure since it exposes your contact details, phone numbers and email address. Private domain name registration on the other hand is more secure but costs more.

The last step in a domain name registration process is to enter your contact information. This includes the owner’s, administrator’s, tech person’s and the billing contacts. In most cases, all these have the same contact information, especially in public domain names. After the checkout process, you are ready to use your domain name after about 48 hours or in some instances immediately. Of course, you will need to build the site, host it and publish it onto a web server before it can be accessible online. That’s a topic for another post.

choosing-affiliate-programs

If you decide to build a business through affiliate marketing, it is essential that you choose the right affiliate programs to promote. Taking the time to research well ahead is critical before you choose a product to promote. Right at the start I’d like to encourage you to sign up for my affiliate marketing newsletter…which teaches you for free how to choose profitable niches and how you too can become a successful affiliate marketer. That’s my plug… now to addressing some basics in affiliate marketing.

The key element to choosing a program is to think about your target audience. While you can blast your affiliate link out to everyone, you will have better conversion rate(traffic to sale) if you choose a program appropriate for and too your market.

Many quality affiliate programs, especially informational products, offer tools for an affiliate to market the product. These tools are designed to help you with conversions, but there are still steps you should take in order to maximize results before signing up for a program.

1. Review the product or service yourself- This is a big one!!!

Research the product yourself.  See how it is doing in the market with other affiliates.  Review the sales page to get an understanding of the offer as well as looking at the money back guarantee. Ask the seller about customer service support and ease of returns.  Put yourself in the shoes of your targeted visitor and honestly ask yourself if you would buy from this merchant.

If at all possible, it is highly recommended that you actually buy the product or service yourself before promoting it. It is much easier to sell something you have had the experience of buying and using.

2. Research any affiliate service offered

Look for any information about an affiliate program’s support team. Contact the merchant and ask about what type of support is offered for affiliates. If you are promoting a product, it is important to know if you have somewhere to turn for questions.  If a vendor is serious about their business, they will provide help to an affiliate and support them in any way they can.

3. What type of marketing materials are available?

When you research a program, look at what types of marketing tools are available for affiliates. These materials provide affiliate with a significant resource for promoting products.  Do the materials look like they would engage the prospects in your niche? Are they professional and relevant?

4. What are the payment options and how quickly will you get paid?

Don’t forget to review all the payment terms. This not only includes commission rates, but how often you are paid and how you are paid (direct deposit, check, paypal, etc.)   Each affiliate program has a different payment option, so be sure you find one that works for you. Unless you go through an affiliate network (i.e. Clickbank), independent vendors can vary widely in payout structure so be sure and read the terms carefully.

These are just a few of the considerations when choosing an affiliate program.  Knowing these core fundamentals ahead of time will help you narrow down your decision to successfully market a profitable niche or service.

All the best,

affiliate-marketing-getting-started

Every day, the Internet is flooded with searches for information, products, or services. Millions of people flock to the web to find some type of solution to their problems. They may be searching for something as simple as an acne remedy or more complex information like building a car engine. With affiliate marketing, you get paid for offering answers to these questions.

As an affiliate marketer, you earn a commission when someone purchases a product through your web link. This could be from the sale of a physical product like a computer or an informational product such as an eBook about losing belly fat. There are thousands of niches you can sign up for to be an online affiliate.

The opportunities are endless. Affiliate marketing gives you an opportunity to provide a product or service to a consumer and receive a nice commission for helping them out.

Well…how do you get started?

Through a website or blog… Like this site for example.

A website or blog is an effective affiliate tool. When visitors arrive on your website, they will most likely take a look around.  Eventually, they will click on your affiliate link for a particular product or service you are offering.  Often times this link is placed in a post that provides a product review.

If you are involved in multiple niches, you can also create multiple websites.  This is a very popular way to earn money as a niche affiliate marketer.  Many affiliate marketers create dozens or even hundreds of niche or micro-niche sites to target customers. The narrower your niche, the more targeted your market is and the easier it is to rank in search engines.

Although it’s not necessary to have a website in order to earn affiliate commissions, it is a common and easy way to accomplish this.  There are no rules to putting an affiliate link on a page if you own your own website.

Link building

Customers will find your site most often through search engines. Unless you use some type of online advertising, targeted visitors will come across your site through a search.  Advertising costs money, so obtaining search engine traffic is a better option for those starting out.

In order for people to find your site, your site has to be indexed and optimized for the search engines. One way to do this is to with inbound links, or backlinks. You can provide links back to you affiliate website by commenting on relevant blogs, article marketing, social media profiles, and forum signatures.

Find the right affiliate programs

Once you create a website, you will need to find products in your niche. Look for products or services that are relevant and provide value to your potential customers. Put yourself in a buyer’s shoes.  Read the product’s sales page and ask yourself if you would buy from that merchant.

Almost every merchant has some type of affiliate program, which you should be able to find on their website.  Another way to find products is to use affiliate networks like Commission Junction or Clickbank.com. Clickbank provides informational products only and is a popular site that many affiliate marketer find products to promote.

If you are ready to be an affiliate marketer, this foundational understanding is enough to get you started.

If you do need the help and the training to be a successful affiliate marketer, then I will show you how for free. You don’t have to spend a single cent and I’m not out to scam or send you cheesy sales pitches. You’ll get to know real methods that work for me and other successful affiliates… to find out more sign up to my weekly tips newsletter on the top right corner. Thanks and see you inside.

list-building

You have probably heard the phrase, “the money is in the list.” I really dislike the term as it’s so ubiquitous. You see it everywhere on the net. I remember when I was first starting out and the phrase really made me depressed as I felt I was the only one without a list. However much I dislike it though it is true. The phrase alludes to the fact that the larger the subscriber list, the more opportunities you have for making a sale.

Affiliate marketing is really a numbers game. The more numbers on your side in terms of traffic and subscribers the more profit in your account. The logic is straightforward but the practicality is far more difficult.

List building is one of the most important foundations in affiliate marketing. A marketer builds a list by providing a web form (like the one on this site-top right) that users will fill in with their name and e-mail address in exchange for information.  Since these individuals voluntarily “opt-in,” you can assume there is some interest in your products or services.

This list then grants you email access to a group of targeted prospects, whom you can send information to directly in hopes of building their trust and interest.  When you continue to provide value, they will be more likely to buy an affiliate product when you send them a link.

Over time, you will begin to build a significant database of targeted prospects and customers interested in receiving more information about your niche.

For example, imagine that you build a large list of 10,000 subscribers - all of whom are interested in your niche. Think of all the sales potential from affiliate links you send to all of those email boxes.

As an affilate marketer, there is an important balance between sending value-added emails and emails strictly promoting an affiliate product.  Do not bombard your subscribers with just affiliate links.  Eventually, they will simply remove themselves from your list.

Building a trusting relationship with them is a very significant part of the list building process. You don’t want to come off as a spammer who is only interested in making a sale.

How do you do that? I hear you ask…

Very easily. Provide free tips or ideas related to your niche. Give your subscribers information about trends and news in your particular market. Keep them interested so they want to open your emails. Delivering value is a great way to keep them interested.  The marketplace thrives on value. By doing this, your subscribers will start to develop trust in what you say. This valuable information is used as a prelude to an affiliate marketing promotion that you offer every now and then - still with their interests in mind.

Essentially, you want to use marketing tactics that pique their interest and gain their trust so you don’t come off as a pushy salesman. The goal is to grow your list and prevent subscribers from unsubscribing.

Be genuine and build a solid relationship with your list, and this will eventually lead to significant sales.

All the best,

Michael,
